KUCHING, April 24: A total of 20 units of 65-inch ViewSonic interactive touchscreen smartboard displays have been distributed to all 20 schools in the Balai Ringin constituency to enhance digital learning and narrow the urban-rural education gap.

The initiative was spearheaded by Balai Ringin assemblyman, Datuk Snowdan Lawan, who is also Deputy Minister for Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts II (Creative Industry and Performing Arts).

The distribution covers 19 primary schools and one secondary school in the constituency.

In a statement, Snowdan said the effort aims to ensure rural students are not left behind in embracing digital education, in line with Sarawak’s Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030, which emphasises digital economy and knowledge-driven growth.

“This is my own initiative to upgrade our young school-going children to adapt faster and embrace digital knowhow at the onset of their initial education,” he said during the handover ceremony at his service centre on Wednesday (April 22).

He further stated that the smartboards would help teachers deliver more effective and interactive lessons, encouraging creativity and improving overall student performance.

“With this, I hope teachers can deliver better and more effective learning methodology to our students, thereby inculcating creative learning and producing smarter students in the future,” he added.

At the same time, Snowdan reminded parents to play a more active role in their children’s education, particularly in terms of discipline and academic guidance at home.

“I understand some parents may not be able to teach chemistry or biology to their children, but at least they can encourage them to complete their homework and monitor their behaviour,” he said.

Prior to the handover, vendors conducted briefing sessions for teachers on the usage and functions of the smartboard systems to ensure effective integration into classroom teaching.

Also present were Pantu District Officer, Raca Mulong; Balai Ringin Sarawak Administrative Officer, Mohammad Adam Muslim Abdullah; representatives from the District Education Offices of Serian, Simunjan and Sri Aman; Tuai Rumah Isabelle Luang as organiser; headmasters, community leaders, councillors, PIBG members and local residents. — DayakDaily
