KOTA KINABALU (Feb 7): A delegation from the Association of Consulting Engineers Malaysia (ACEM) Sabah Branch paid a courtesy call on appointed nominated assemblyman Datuk Ir. Chin Shu Ying on Thursday at the KK Taipan, Inanam New Township office.
The delegation was led by ACEM Sabah chairman Ir. Benny Song and included Honorary Secretary Datuk Ir. Ts. Amarjit Singh, council members Ir. James Leong, Ir. Kenny Lo, and the past branch chairman Ir. Ts. Tan KJ, JP, Ir. Paul Yap, and Ir. Lee T.F.
The visit aimed to formally invite Chin as the guest of honour for ACEM’s Chinese New Year celebration scheduled for February 28. Discussions also covered strategies to improve development permit processes, ensuring efficiency and transparency in local engineering and construction approvals.
The delegation highlighted ACEM’s commitment to community development, particularly through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programmes providing free food services for the poorest students in school canteens, benefiting those from B40 families. Professional development initiatives for young engineers were also discussed to strengthen the talent pipeline.
Chin welcomed ACEM’s initiatives and noted that he is still following up with the state government regarding funding for BIM training programmes, which aim to enhance digital construction skills and project management capabilities in Sabah.
Speaking on the occasion, Song expressed optimism that continued dialogue with government leaders would foster stronger collaboration between the public sector and engineering professionals, benefiting both the community and the industry alike.
