PENAMPANG (Jan 30): Police arrested a man on suspicion of telecommunications cable theft in Donggongon on Thursday.
Penampang deputy police chief Supt Erwansyah Abdul Basir said the 30-year-old suspect was arrested following a tip-off around 4pm.
“Police spotted a vehicle moving in a suspicious manner in Kobusak and ordered the driver to stop, but the suspect sped off prompting a police chase towards Bundusan.
“The suspect’s vehicle, however, skidded off the road and crashed into a business premises on Jalan Yue Min.
“The suspect then ran out of the vehicle but was apprehended by police at the scene,” he said in a statement.
Erwansyah said police found a roll of telecommunications cable and a vehicle battery, believed to have been stolen, in the vehicle.
“Past records show the suspect had drug-related offences and a urine test was positive for drugs,” he added.
The case is being investigated under Section 431A of the Penal Code for committing mischief against public facilities, Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant in the performance of his duties, and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
