KOTA KINABALU (April 5): Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor celebrated Hari Raya Aidilfitri with members of the Sabah media at Magellan Sutera Resort last Saturday.
Among those present were Sabah Journalists Association president Mariah Doksil, Kota Kinabalu Journalist Association chairman Datuk Jimmy Goh, Chief Minister’s Department media and communications director Datuk Lucy Irene Yong, assistant minister to the chief minister Datuk Isnin Aliasnih, and Yayasan Sabah director Datuk Ghulam Khan Bahadar.
Yong expressed appreciation for the commitment and dedication of media practitioners in disseminating information to the public.
“The media plays a very important role as a link between the government and the people, and we appreciate the role in clearly explaining government policies while conveying the people’s voices to the authorities for action.
“However, while the media’s role today demands speed, it should not come at the expense of accuracy. In an era of information overload, effective media is media that disseminates verified news, thus serving as the main reference for the public in forming accurate facts,” she said.
In this regard, she said the Media and Communications Office will continue to ensure that all reports and news related to the state government and the chief minister are shared promptly and accurately with the media for dissemination through their respective platforms.
