KOTA KINABALU (Jan 6): The number of flood evacuees in Sabah has reached over 1,400 people being placed at 10 temporary evacuation centres (PPS).
A statement from the Sabah State Disaster Management Committee on Tuesday said the centres at Dewan Slagon and Dewan Resedensi PR1MA Woordford Estate in Beaufort were accommodating 358 people from 124 families and 237 people from 74 families, respectively, while those at Masjid Darau Ikhlas Kampung Batandok Lubak and Dewan Sri Dayang Shahbandar Padas Damit were in the process of registering the flood victims.
In Kota Belud, the number of evacuees at PPS Dewan Masyarakat Tun Said stood at 260 people from 90 families.
The numbers in Tenom had not changed, with PPS Dewan Terbuka Labut 2 housing 154 people from 44 families; PPS Rumah Kebudayaan Kg Ponontomon with 217 people from 78 families; PPS Rumah Kebudayaan Mandalom Lama with 120 people from 60 families; and PPS Rumah Kebudayaan Pantongan Saga with 44 people from 16 families.
“PPS SK Saga PPS in Tenom currently has 28 people from 12 families, while 44 people from 12 families who were affected by a recent fire in Putatan are taking shelter at PPS Dewan Sri Keramat in Putatan,” said the committee.
It added that continuous monitoring of the flood situation was ongoing, which involving the Civil Defence Department, the Fire and Rescue Department and other agencies.
