KUCHING, Apr 4: Students sponsored by Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) and studying in the Middle East have not received any instruction to return home despite the ongoing conflict in the region, said Kota Samarahan MP and Deputy Minister of Rural and Regional Development Datuk Rubiah Wang.
She said the government is closely monitoring developments to ensure the safety and wellbeing of the students while allowing them to continue their studies.
“So far, there has been no directive to bring the students back. The situation is being monitored and the students are being guided to ensure they remain safe and can continue their studies as usual,” she told reporters when met at Kota Samarahan Hari Raya open house at Kota Samarahan Civic Centre today.
She added that relevant authorities remain in contact with the students and institutions involved, and will take appropriate action if the situation escalates.
Separately, the Kota Samarahan MP noted that students in the constituency have recorded encouraging improvements in their Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) results this year.
“The district’s average grade point rose from 5.49 to 5.18, while SMK Pesantren Abdul Taib Mahmud recorded a 100 per cent pass rate in the SPM examination,” she added.
A total of 20 students from four schools in the constituency also received Hari Raya incentives after achieving straight As at the same event.
She attributed the improvement to close cooperation between elected representatives, education agencies, teachers and the community, noting that some schools which previously faced disciplinary challenges are now recording stronger academic results. — DayakDaily
