Penampang drug trafficking suspect caught with over half kg of ecstasy, ketamine

PENAMPANG (Feb 6): A man was arrested with over half a kilogramme of drugs in front of a condominium here on Wednesday.

Sabah Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department chief ACP Alhusin Halil said the 37-year-old suspect was arrested at 11pm following a tip-off and continuous surveillance.

“Fifteen plastic packets containing a white powder, believed to be ecstasy, were found on the suspect with a total weight of 498.01 grammes.

“Police also found six packets containing ketamine weighing at 15.10 grammes, while 65 cigarettes, believed to contain drugs, were also seized from the suspect,” he said in a statement.

Alhusin said the seized drugs were estimated to be worth RM14,450.

Based on the investigation, the drugs were for distribution at entertainment centres.

The suspect has been active since last October.

He has been remanded for investigation under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which carries the death penalty or life imprisonment and at least 12 strokes of the rotan upon conviction.
