SARATOK (Jan 23): The Saratok District Police Headquarters (IPD Saratok) conducted an integrated crime prevention operation on Thursday to enhance public safety and curb criminal activities in identified hotspot areas.

Saratok police chief DSP Mathew Manggie said the operation, carried out from 3.30pm to 5.30pm, aimed to reduce index crime cases while strengthening police visibility in areas prone to criminal activities.

“The operation focused on crime prevention through targeted enforcement and omnipresence, particularly in hotspots involving motorcycle and vehicle theft, as well as other property-related crimes,” he said in a statement on Friday.

Mathew added that the operation also sought to identify suspicious individuals and vehicles through roadblocks and snap checks, reducing traffic offences, especially those involving motorcyclists, and detecting individuals wanted in criminal, narcotics and commercial crime cases.

The operation was led by Insp Muhammad Asraf Mad Nasir and involved a total of 16 personnel.

Areas covered included roadblocks along the Pan Borneo Highway and patrols around markets, villages and residential areas in Kabong, Saratok and Roban.

During the operation, police inspected 80 individuals and 78 vehicles, issuing a total of 26 traffic summonses for various offences.

No arrests or seizures were made during the operation.

Mathew said such operations would continue to be carried out periodically to ensure public safety and to deter criminal activities in the district.
