KUCHING, April 4: Residents in northern Sarawak who need to cross into neighboring Brunei are advised to maintain a positive attitude and respect the country’s fuel regulations.
According to a report by TVS, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said Brunei requires foreign vehicles entering the country to have a full fuel tank. Vehicles with less than three-quarters of a tank are not allowed entry, as the measure aims to protect Brunei’s fuel supply.
“We respect the laws of our neighboring country, and they have to regulate fuel use to ensure it is consumed more prudently due to the unrest in the Middle East.
“This is a global issue affecting all countries, and some have even been crippled because they lack fuel reserves to meet energy, industrial, and all fuel-related needs,” he said when attending the wedding of Deputy Minister for Food Industry, Commodity & Regional Development (Food Industry) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail’s son, Dr Abdul Hakim Abdul Rahman, and Dr Nur Arifah Adlina Azman at Kampung Nauran in Limbang today.
Awang Tengah said the rules are temporary and noted that Malaysia also imposes strict fuel regulations on foreign vehicles.
He reassured that northern Sarawak residents typically fill their tanks before crossing, and Bruneians entering Sarawak are treated similarly. — DayakDaily
