KOTA KINABALU (Feb 6): A delegation from the Sabah Engineers Association (SEA), the Institution of Engineers Malaysia Sabah Branch (IEMS) and the Association of Consulting Engineers Malaysia Sabah Branch (ACEMS) paid a courtesy call on Sabah Oil & Gas Development Corporation
(SOGDC) chairman Datuk Ir. Shahelmey Yahya at his office on Thursday.
They were led by SEA President Ir. CC Lo, accompanied by Honorary Secretary Datuk Ir. Willy Chin. Representing IEMS were Vice Chairman I Ir. Ts. Tan KJ, JP, Vice Chairman II Ir. Paul Yap and Honorary Treasurer Ir. Jack Wong. ACEMS was represented by Branch Chairman Ir. Benny Song, together with former Branch Chairman Ir. Lee T. F. and Ir. Amirul Hisham.
During the meeting, the delegation formally invited Shahelmey to grace the Chinese New Year celebration at the Damai office on February 28 as a special guest, reflecting the strong partnership between the professional engineering fraternity and the State Government.
The courtesy call also provided an opportunity for constructive discussions on the development potential of the Sipitang Oil and Gas Park (SOGIP). The delegation expressed strong interest in contributing professional expertise to support Sabah’s oil and gas ecosystem, particularly in areas of infrastructure planning, engineering consultancy, project implementation and regulatory compliance.
In addition, SEA, IEMS and ACEMS conveyed their collective commitment to strengthening collaboration with the State Government, including closer engagement with SOGDC and related agencies. Emphasis was placed on the need for more structured training programmes, technical seminars and knowledge-sharing platforms focusing on oil and gas developments, emerging technologies and industry best practices, with the aim of enhancing the competency and readiness of local engineers.
Shahelmey welcomed the engagement and acknowledged the important role of professional institutions in supporting sustainable industrial development, talent growth and the long-term success of the Sipitang Oil and Gas Park. Both parties expressed confidence in fostering continued cooperation for the benefit of Sabah’s oil and gas industry and overall economic development.
