KUCHING, April 4: The Malaysia government has allocated RM30 million this year to upgrade border control posts in Sarawak, reinforcing infrastructure and improving the welfare of serving defense personnel.
In a TVS news, Deputy Minister of Defence Adly Zahari said the funding will focus on enhancing existing posts, following the establishment of several new posts in 2024.
“At present, Sarawak has 12 border control posts, including three joint Malaysia-Indonesia posts operated in cooperation with the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) to ensure the security of our borders.
“Our top priority is to maintain border security, including monitoring entry and exit points and the movement of goods, while strengthening collaboration with agencies such as the Ministry of Home Affairs and the General Operations Force (GOF),” he added during the Madani Veteran Care Programme at Kampung Ensebang Pelaie in Samarahan on Friday (April 3).
Adly also revealed plans to establish additional control posts under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), although the final number will be determined after consultation with the National Security Council and the State government.
In a related move, the government has increased allocations for military veterans to RM300 million this year, with most funds directed towards cost-of-living support and healthcare services.
“This initiative, under the Madani Veteran Care Programme, prioritises welfare, health, housing, children’s education, and the socio-economic development of veterans,” he said.
During the visit, 16 veterans in the Simunjan and Sebuyau areas were personally visited to ensure that assistance reaches the intended beneficiaries. — DayakDaily
