BINTANGOR (Feb 3): Sarawakians have been urged to remain united, uphold noble values, and prioritise talent development as key drivers of the state’s sustainable future.
Deputy Premier of Sarawak and Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) president Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian said Sarawak’s steady progress over the years was largely due to political stability and consistent leadership.
“Progress can only be achieved through constructive engagement, not destructive politics,” he said in a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report.
Dr Sim stressed that nation-building would be difficult in a divided environment, adding that a society which continually undermines its own institutions would struggle to move forward.
Speaking at the Annual Assembly cum SUPP Bintangor Party Mobilisation Machinery 2026 on Sunday, Dr Sim noted that the continued trust and support shown by Meradong residents towards SUPP and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) since 2016 had been well-placed, as reflected in the significant infrastructure developments implemented across the district.
Meanwhile, Meradong assemblyman Datuk Ding Kuong Hiing outlined 10 major projects planned for the district.
He said ongoing works include a RM4 million upgrading of the Bintangor Recreational Park, while completed projects comprise the RM3.5 million Bintangor Sports Complex and the RM3 million Bintangor pontoon.
Ding added that several projects under the Rajang Delta Development Agency (Radda) are expected to be tendered this year, including a RM35 million upgrading of the Bintangor riverbank and an RM18 million two-storey multipurpose hall.
Other planned infrastructure projects include an RM8 million alternative road from Jalan Kilang to Jalan Janting, a RM10 million main pipeline from Jalan Kelupu to Tulai Booster Station, and a RM25 million upgrading of the Bintangor town water reticulation system.
He further said the RM77 million Bintangor–Sungai Tulai alternative road under Radda would be implemented following a request by Deputy Minister of Plantation and Commodities and Sarikei MP Dato Sri Huang Tiong Sii.
“These projects are expected to enhance public amenities, foster community engagement, and strengthen Meradong District’s infrastructure network comprehensively,” Ding added.
