“The group then entered the home, restrained the victim, and fled with the stolen items,” he said in a statement today.

Mohd Farhan highlighted that swift action under Ops Casa by officers from the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) led to the arrest of five suspects within 24 hours.

“Subsequent follow-up operations resulted in all nine suspects being detained.

“During the operation, police also recovered some of the stolen items, including one mobile phone and two gold rings, to aid in the investigation,” he said.

The suspects, aged between 17 and 48, consisting of eight men and one woman, are now remanded at Miri Central Police lockup. Urine tests confirmed all tested positive for drugs.

The case is being investigated under Section 395 of the Penal Code for gang robbery, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years’ imprisonment and can include whipping if convicted.

Mohd Farhan urged the public to remain vigilant, ensure their homes are secure, and report any suspicious activity to the police.

“Community cooperation is crucial in assisting the police to curb crime and ensure public safety is maintained,” he added. — DayakDaily
