KUCHING, 23 September: Approximately 2,800 students who received Sarawak Free Higher Education Scheme (FTES) continue their studies at the Sarawak University of Technology (UTS).
Deputy Chancellor of UTS Professor Mohammad Shahril Osman, said that out of the total about 1,500 students received stipends including housing allowance.
"The total number of students at UTS is about 5,700 and the students receiving FTES are 2,800.
"For the FTES programs that are STEM programs, we have about 16 STEM-themed programs out of 18 undergraduate programs. So most of the programs at UTS are STEM programs", he said.
He said this to the media after making a visit to honour Prime Minister Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Satria Pertiwi Complex here today.
He added that UTS will also offer new study programmes especially in the field of medicine in the future.
The implementation of FTES in higher education institutions owned by the Sarawak government opens up more educational opportunities regardless of family background. - TVS
