KUCHING, April 15: Bangladesh is seeking to formalise the recruitment of its workers for Sarawak’s development sector, particularly in construction and agriculture, through a proposed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the State government.
In a Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news, Bangladesh High Commissioner to Malaysia, Manjurul Karim Khan Chowdhury, said the proposal was discussed during a courtesy visit with Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, held in a friendly and constructive atmosphere.
“At the same time, we also discussed the recruitment of Bangladeshi workers, including both skilled and general workers, for various development projects in Sarawak, especially in the construction sector and other related fields.
“We have proposed to sign an MoU with Sarawak for the recruitment of Bangladeshi workers,” he told a press conference after the visit at the Satria Pertiwi Complex here today.
Manjurul Karim added that both sides also explored broader areas of cooperation to strengthen bilateral ties, including agriculture, agro-processing, and renewable energy.
He noted that an additional MoU was proposed to facilitate collaboration in agriculture and other sectors.
Also present were Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sarawak Regional Office director Dato Fenny Nuli and Deputy High Commissioner Mosammat Shahanara Monica. — DayakDaily
