KUCHING, Oct 15: A 33-year-old clinic manager from Samariang, Kuching, had a once-in-a-lifetime experience of being a billionaire for a moment in his life when a technical banking error boosted the amount in his online bank account to 10-digits figure.
According to a Berita Harian report, the incident went viral after Wan Muhammad Fairus uploaded a screenshot of the extraordinary balance on his online banking app, sharing his extraordinary experience with netizens.
He said he was in his bedroom preparing to make a transaction when he noticed the unusually large sum.
Screengrab of the viral post on threads.“If I remember correctly, my account balance was less than RM1,000. When I opened the app and tapped the icon to hide the balance, I was shocked to see such an enormous amount.
“I was really stunned! My hands were shaking as I held my phone. I tried logging out and logging back in, but the money was still there.
“It was only after checking my bank statement and asking ChatGPT how much the figure amounted to that I realised it had reached RM1 billion,” he told Berita Harian.
The father of four said he immediately suspected a technical error, knowing the money was not his, and contacted the bank to seek clarification.
He added that he never considered using the money, as he was aware it did not belong to him and was concerned about the potential legal consequences.
“After I contacted the bank, they informed me that a technical issue had occurred and temporarily blocked my account until 4pm yesterday.
“Everything was resolved after the bank reversed the transaction, and the original amount in my account remained unaffected.
“The bank informed me that it wanted to give me a reward, but I have not received anything yet and do not know what the reward will be. Perhaps I will have to wait for an email notification or an announcement from them,” he was reported as saying. — DayakDaily
