BINTULU (Feb 3): Bintulu FA sealed their place in the final of the Premier Sarawak Cup 2025 after holding Kuching FA to a 1–1 draw in the second-leg semifinal at Stadium Bintulu, advancing on 3–2 aggregate. The match on Sunday was kicked off by Tanjong Batu assemblyman Johnny Pang Leong Ming.
Bintulu FA team manager Awang Madihi Awang Yatim described the match as nerve-wracking especially after Kuching FA struck an early goal to put pressure on the home side.
“The match was very tense, particularly when Kuching FA scored first. However, in the second half, Bintulu FA managed to regain control of the game and eventually equalised to secure our place in the final,” he told The Borneo Post.
The equaliser came late in the match with Badrul Hafiz Mohd Isa finding the net in the 84th minute.
“This success is the result of strong commitment from everyone, the players, coaching staff and the management who have worked well together from the start of the competition,” Awang Madihi said.
He explained that hosts were aware Kuching FA would adopt an attacking approach, having trailed 1-2 after the first leg.
“Kuching FA had to attack, but we did not sit back completely. We continued to attack in an organised manner, which eventually paid off,” he added.
The Bintulu players were praised for their discipline and focus, particularly in defence.
Tactical adjustments were also made at half-time after the visitors dominated the midfield in the opening period.
“In the second half, we closed down space in midfield, which made the match more balanced,” he revealed.
An overwhelming turnout at the stadium ensured that the local supporters played a crucial role in boosting the team’s morale.
“The strong support from the fans really lifted the players’spirit and motivation on the pitch,” he said.
The Bintulu boys are now looking ahead to the final against Samarahan which will be played on Feb 15.
