KUCHING (Jan 23): The Sarawak Road Transport Department (JPJ Sarawak) made a major haul during Thursday’s ‘Ops Kenderaan Mewah’ and ‘Ops Motosikal’ along Jalan Tun Datuk Patinggi Haji Abdul Rahman Yakub, seizing a total of 18 vehicles, including four luxury cars.
According to JPJ Sarawak’s Facebook page, the operation inspected 1,229 vehicles, issuing 322 notices for various offences.
Common violations included expired or absent driving licences and the use of unauthorised HID/LED lights.
“In addition, four luxury vehicles were seized — one BMW, two Mercedes-Benz and one Nissan GT-R — for offences involving expired road tax and the lack of insurance coverage,” the statement said.
JPJ Sarawak Director Norizan Jili said the department will continue such enforcement drives, aiming not just to punish but also to educate road users on the importance of compliance.
“Such enforcement actions will be implemented on an ongoing basis to educate and raise awareness among road users so that they consistently comply with the law,” he said.
JPJ Sarawak emphasised that these efforts are part of its commitment to safety, public well-being, and harmony on Sarawak roads.
