Body of unidentified individual found in Kuching’s Sungai Midin

KUCHING (Feb 1): An unidentified body was found at Sungai Midin, near Jalan Kampung Sungai Midin in Samariang here yesterday.

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) first dispatched firefighters from the Petra Jaya fire station after a receiving a call at 10.14am.

The firefighters were sent to assist police in recovering the body but later requested help from Padungan fire station, which happened to be conducting a boat test nearby

“The operation could not proceed at first due to high tide, and the ramp was not low enough to disembark the Bomba boat to the river.

“At noon, the operation resumed to retrieve the body, but the firefighters faced difficulties as the area was identified as a crocodile nest.

“The operation was postponed at 6.35pm and scheduled to resume when the river was at low tide,” Bomba said.

At 9pm, the firefighters managed to recover the body, which was then handed over to the police for further action.
