Bukit Kota rep proposes 43 new community leader posts for Limbang amid population growth

KUCHING, Apr 11: Bukit Kota assemblyman Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail has proposed that an additional 43 new positions for community leaders be added for Limbang to cater to the division’s population growth and new settlements, while strengthening community administration.

Speaking at a ‘Leaders with Community Leaders Dinner’ gathering at the Limbang Civic Centre on Friday, he said that the proposal has already been submitted to the Sarawak Secretary.

He elaborated that the proposal consisted of one Temenggung position, four Pemanca positions, 13 Penghulu positions, and 25 Ketua Kaum positions.

Currently, the Limbang division has five Temenggung, seven Pemanca, 34 Penghulu, and 328 Ketua Kaum.

“Community leaders play a vital role, acting as the eyes and ears for the government at the grassroots level.

“In addition to administering the community, they also help to safeguard development, village security, find solutions to disputes, implement government policies, and protect residents’ welfare,” he said during the programme, which was broadcast live via TVS on Friday (Apr 10).

Meanwhile, Dr Abdul Rahman, who is also the Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodities, and Regional Development, thanked the Sarawak government for increasing Ketua Masyarakat and Ketua Kaum allowances starting this year.

He described the initiative as one that boosted community leaders’ morale and strengthened their commitment to assisting the government in achieving the State’s development agenda. — DayakDaily
