BETONG (Feb 5): Sarawak Games (Suksar) IV 2026 officially got underway with the men’s road cycling mass start event, which saw 21 riders from four zones battling it out for the top honours.
According to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report, the competition involved representatives from the Southern, Western, Central and Northern Zones, with the Southern, Western and Northern Zones each fielding six riders, while the Central Zone sent three.
The flag-off ceremony was officiated by Sarawak Ministry of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development (MYSED) permanent secretary Dzulkornain Masron.
All riders in the men’s category were challenged by a demanding 116-kilometre route along the Pan Borneo Highway, featuring a total elevation gain of 780 metres, testing both physical endurance and team strategy.
Meanwhile, the women’s road cycling event is scheduled to take place at 1pm, with the participation of nine riders.
The Southern Zone has fielded three riders, the Western Zone four, and the Northern Zone two, while the Central Zone did not send any representatives in this category.
In the women’s race, participants will cover a distance of 105 kilometres with a total elevation gain of 710 metres.
