Apart from reflecting the confidence and trust placed in Muhammad Abdullah’s leadership by members of the Institute, the re-election followed a transformative term that saw MASA strengthen its position as one of Sarawak’s leading professional institutions through strategic partnerships, international collaborations, leadership development programmes, executive education initiatives, and institutional sustainability projects.

Among the major achievements of the previous board was the strategic collaboration with the Malaysia Research and Education Foundation (MyREF), which led to the successful organisation of the Contemporary Leadership International Summit 2025 (CLIS 2025).

The summit attracted more than 1,000 participants from across government, industry, academia, and the community, creating an important platform for discussions on leadership, governance, innovation, and future workforce development.

The collaboration also resulted in the implementation of the Contemporary Leadership Webinar Series, Professional Certificate in Contemporary Leadership (PCCL), and other executive development programmes designed to nurture future leaders and strengthen management capabilities.

As part of their commitment to nurturing globally minded leaders, MASA and MyREF facilitated international leadership and executive learning programmes in the United Kingdom, featuring academic engagements at the Markfield Institute of Higher Education and the University of Oxford.

These programmes provided participants with invaluable insights into global leadership, governance, innovation, sustainability, and best practices in organisational excellence, helping to prepare future leaders for an increasingly interconnected world.

Further strengthening its contribution to talent development, MASA established a strategic collaboration with the University of Melbourne, enabling Sarawakians and working professionals to pursue a globally recognised Master of Business programme while remaining in Sarawak.

The initiative expands access to world-class education and supports the State’s aspirations in human capital development, innovation, and economic transformation.

In line with the Premier of Sarawak Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s challenge for organisations to embrace sustainability and reduce dependency on external funding, MASA has embarked on a strategic journey towards becoming a self-sustaining institution through the acquisition and redevelopment of a hotel property.

This landmark initiative is expected to generate long-term recurring income that will strengthen MASA’s financial resilience and support its expanding portfolio of leadership development programmes, professional education, research activities, and community initiatives.

The investment represents a significant milestone in MASA’s transformation, ensuring that the Institute remains sustainable, relevant, and capable of delivering lasting impact for future generations.

Over the past term, MASA has strengthened its role through leadership development initiatives, strategic collaborations, digital transformation programmes, international partnerships, and professional networking activities.

The new Board is committed to building upon these achievements and further enhancing MASA’s contribution towards human capital development and organisational excellence in Sarawak.

Established in 1993, the Institute of Management Sarawak (MASA) is a non-profit professional organisation dedicated to advancing management knowledge, leadership capabilities, and professional excellence through education, research, networking, and strategic partnerships. —DayakDaily
