KUCHING, 15 Oct: A total of 33 projects under the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industries and Performing Arts (MTCP) of Sarawak are being implemented across Sarawak with a total value of RM486.39 million.
Deputy Minister of Tourism Sarawak, Datuk Sebastian Ting Chiew Yew said that the total included 21 projects funded by the Government of Sarawak worth RM408.382 million, one People's Project worth RM52 million and 11 projects funded by the Federal Government amounting to RM26.01 million.
According to him, the planning and priorities of tourism projects take into account alignment with state development agenda, policy objectives, socio-economic impact, value for money, tourism growth potential, sustainability as well as level of readiness of project.
"All (33) projects were implemented by various agencies including the Department of Public Works (JKR), Land Development and Protection Board (LCDA), Sarawak Forestry Corporation (SFC), Sarawak Economic Development Corporation (SEDC) and local authorities.
"The Ministry also assessed each proposal based on its contribution to the main tourism outcomes under the Post Covid-19 Development Strategy (PCDS) 2030", he said.
He said this while answering the question of Serembu Member of State Legislative Assembly (DUN), Dato Miro Simuh at the 19th Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Conference today.
Sebastian explained Sarawak's tourism performance over the past two years shows growth driven by the government's ongoing strategy and investment in the sector.
Additionally, in 2025, visitor arrivals increased to 4.97 million from 4.83 million in 2024, which is a growth of 2.9 percent, while tourism receipts rose from RM12.45 billion to RM12.67 billion or 1.8 percent.
"While these positive results cannot be attributed to any single tourism infrastructure project, they reflect the collective impact of continued investment in tourism infrastructure, destination development, improved connectivity, tourism promotion and close cooperation with industry players", he said.
