KUCHING, 15 Oct: A total of 526 houses in the Machan State Legislative Assembly (DUN) area have been fully restored under Sarawak's Poor Home Improvement Program (PPRMS) for the period 2021 to 2026.
Machan State Advisory Council (ADUN) member Allan Siden Gramong said more than 30 residences are undergoing rehabilitation work under PPRMS Phase 2 for 2026.
He said that the program would be of great benefit to disadvantaged people, especially families living in homes that need immediate repairs.
"This programme is very meaningful to the people, especially the disadvantaged families who live in homes that need urgent repair work.
"This program not only repairs damaged roofs, floors, walls or parts of houses but also helps restore comfort, security and dignity to a family's life", he said.
He said this while discussing Sarawak Budget 2027 at the 19th Sarawak State Assembly (DUN) Conference, today.
In the meantime, Allan also touched on efforts to expand basic facilities to rural communities in particular access to clean water and electricity supply.
He welcomed the implementation of the Kanowit New Water Treatment Plant Project which is expected to benefit 754 households, involving 43 villages and long houses as well as three schools in Majau, Batu Luking, Mam and Poi areas.
In addition, he informed that the rural electricity supply project under RES Last Miles Phase 2 and Phase 3 schemes completed in 2025 has benefited 32 long houses in Machan, Kanowit and Sibu area.
He said the electricity facility was bringing about a huge change in the lives of people who had previously had to rely on generators, thus supporting high consumption costs.
"I also welcomed the approval of Kanowit New Town Hall Project which can accommodate between 500 to 800 people. Two lots of land adjacent to Kanowit Guest have been identified as proposed construction sites.
"With a larger and more complete hall, the Kanowit community will have a better place to conduct KKK activities, cultural programs and sports", he explained.
He hopes that the development of basic facilities can be fully continued to ensure rural people enjoy a more comfortable, safe and prosperous life.
