Immigration ops in Kuching nets 48 foreigners for various offences

KUCHING (Jan 8): The Sarawak Immigration Department detained 48 foreigners for various Immigration Act 1959/63 offences during an enforcement operation here on Tuesday.

The operation was carried out in areas around Kuching City Mall commercial centre, Desa Ilmu business area, and at several Matang Hub food premises.

“The premises were believed to have employed foreign workers without valid travel documents or passes.

“All foreign nationals detained have been brought to the nearest Immigration Office for further investigation,” the department said in a statement shared on social media.

The operation involved 28 officers and personnel from the Kuching Immigration Enforcement Division.

During the operation, 96 individuals were inspected.

“Enforcement operations will continue to be intensified from time to time to ensure compliance with immigration laws as well as to safeguard public safety and order,” added the department.

The detainees are escorted to a department vehicle.
