KUCHING, April 3: The Sarawak government’s flagship projects in Lawas are racing toward completion, with the Lawas Bridge now 83.8 per cent finished and the Lawas Aquatic Centre hitting 70 per cent progress.
Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Labour, Immigration and Project Monitoring) Datuk Gerawat Gala, who visited multiple sites yesterday (Apr 2), said proactive monitoring allows construction issues to be resolved immediately, keeping projects on schedule.
“Among the key projects we are monitoring is the Lawas Aquatic Centre, which has now reached approximately 70 percent physical completion, with roof construction actively underway.
“At the same time, the Lawas Bridge, under the supervision of the Northern Region Development Agency (NRDA), has recorded 83.8 percent progress and is expected to be completed and officially opened before the end of this year, potentially becoming a new landmark for the district,” Gerawat was quoted as saying by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS) during the visit.
He also said the Mengkalap ICQS Complex is fully equipped but facing manpower constraints, while development in the “No Man’s Land” along the Brunei-Malaysia border will be referred to the Ministry of Home Affairs for further action.
“For the Ba’kelalan ICQS Post, the building is complete, but road access remains a major challenge. Upgrade works are now in the tendering process following government allocation,” he added.
Also present were Lawas MP Dato Henry Sum Agong, NRDA Regional Director Datu Ubaidillah Abdul Latip and Sarawak Human Resources Unit (SHRU) Director Sapiah Daud. — DayakDaily
