The suspect is arrested at a house in Marudi on Sunday.
MIRI (Feb 3): A 43-year-old man was arrested at a house in Marudi on Sunday for suspected motorcycle theft.
Miri district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the suspect fled with a motorcycle on Jan 27, which had been parked in front of a residential area near a secondary school here.
“Based on intelligence information, police conducted a raid at a house in Marudi and arrested the suspect believed to be involved in the incident.
“Further investigations revealed that the suspect had changed the colour and rims of the stolen motorcycle before police successfully apprehended him and seized the stolen motorcycle,” said Mohd Farhan in the statement on Monday.
He added that checks on the suspect’s past records showed he had criminal records for theft, criminal intimidation and drug abuse. An initial urine screening also tested positive for methamphetamine.
“With the arrest and recovery of the stolen motorcycle, the theft case has been successfully solved,” he said, adding that the suspect has been remanded until Feb 4 for further investigations under Section 379A of the Penal Code.
The section provides for imprisonment not less than one year and not more than seven years, and offenders may also be liable to a fine.
Mohd Farhan urged the public to continue providing information and to cooperate with the police in combating criminal activities by contacting Miri District Police Headquarters Operations Room at 085-433400.
