KUCHING (Feb 4): Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) chairman Tan Kai has urged the Democratic Action Party (DAP) to channel public complaints through the proper avenues instead of raising issues through the media, which he described as unnecessary and politically motivated.

Responding to a statement by Michael Kong, special assistant to Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen, regarding clogged drains at the Ee Ann City Commercial Centre, Mile 7, Tan said MPP has multiple established channels for the public to submit complaints, including its hotline 082-615566, WhatsApp line 013-8025566, the Talikhidmat platform, and through resident councillors.

“We do receive complaints from residents as well. There are many complaint channels available, but only DAP prefers to complain through newspapers. Why? I guess it is just for publicity and at the same time to attack the local government,” he said in a statement today.

Tan stressed that MPP would treat the matter as a normal public complaint and take appropriate action, reiterating the council’s commitment to serving the rakyat rather than political narratives.

He also encouraged all parties to cooperate by using official channels to ensure issues can be resolved efficiently and constructively.

Earlier, Kong had called on MPP to ensure regular maintenance and cleaning of drains, particularly at the Ee Ann City Commercial Centre, citing serious rubbish accumulation, including a discarded mattress and rubbish bin, which he said posed a high risk of flash floods during heavy rain.

Kong said clogged drains obstruct water flow and often result in flooding that disrupts traffic and causes losses to businesses and residents, urging the council to take swift action and strengthen routine monitoring to prevent a recurrence.
