KUCHING (Jan 4): Assistance and relief were extended to victims of a residential fire at Mile 13, Jalan Kuching–Serian today, as the Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) and community leaders moved swiftly to support affected families in the aftermath of the incident.
MPP chairman Tan Kai, accompanied by Temenggong Dato Tan Joo Phoi, community leader Datuk Jacky Chai and members of the rescue teams, visited the affected area to assess the situation on the ground and convey care and condolences to the victims, according to a press release.
During the visit on Sunday, daily necessities and financial assistance were presented to the affected families to help them cope with the immediate impact of the disaster.
The delegation also went from house to house to listen to the victims’ accounts and understand the difficulties they are currently facing.
Tan said MPP will continue to monitor the post-disaster situation and provide assistance within its capacity.
“The sudden fire not only caused property damage but also brought significant disruption to the lives of the affected residents,” he said, while appealing to the public and various sectors to extend support and care to the affected families.
He also expressed his appreciation to all parties involved for their prompt cooperation and assistance, which ensured that relief efforts were carried out smoothly.
The assistance followed a fire that broke out at around 4am on Sunday at Taman Beverly Garden, which damaged three residential houses and affected 17 residents.

The affected residents expressed their heartfelt gratitude to MPP, as well as to the teams led by Joo Phoi and Chai, for the visit and aid rendered.
They expressed hope that with continued support, they would be able to rebuild their lives and move forward after the tragedy.
