KANOWIT (Jan 7): The Nanga Ngungun–Nanga Bat road construction project has reached its final stage ahead of implementation, offering new hope to rural communities in the Ngemah state constituency through improved connectivity and socio-economic development, said Anyi Jana.
The Ngemah assemblyman was cited in a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report as saying the project is currently awaiting a meeting involving technical agencies for the selection of a contractor before construction work begins.
“The Nanga Ngungun–Nanga Bat Road project is now in its final phase prior to implementation.
“It is part of the broader Nanga Ngungun–Nanga Jagau Road package and is expected to deliver significant benefits to residents in the area,” he said at the ‘People with Leader’ programme held at Rumah Langgong in Nanga Bat here on Monday.
Anyi said the new road will enhance connectivity in interior areas, ease residents’ movement, stimulate economic activities and improve access to essential services such as education, healthcare and the marketing of agricultural produce.
He also highlighted the importance of education, calling on parents to play a proactive role in guiding their children’s academic development.
“The Sarawak government provides various forms of educational assistance to help students realise their potential. Starting this year, tuition fees at Sarawak government-owned higher education institutions have been waived,” he said.
To further support educational advancement, Anyi said the Ngemah service centre offers academic incentives to students who excel in the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia (STPM) examinations.
Financial assistance is also provided to students from the Ngemah constituency pursuing diploma and bachelor’s degree programmes.
On the issue of Native Customary Rights (NCR) land surveys under Section 18 of the Sarawak Land Code, Anyi said the Sarawak government continues to implement the initiative and emphasised the need for cooperation from local residents.
He urged residents to work closely with the Land and Survey Department should dialogue sessions on land measurement be held in their areas.
At the event, Anyi approved a Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) allocation of RM100,000 for the construction of a new fence at Rumah Langgong.
He also approved a minor rural project (MRP) grant of RM8,000 for the Rumah Langgong Village Development and Security Committee (JKKK) to carry out its annual activities.
