MIRI (Jan 27): Police seized 12 motorcycles and issued 34 summonses during ‘Op Samseng Jalanan’ held around the city here last weekend.
Miri District Police, in a Facebook post on Monday, stated that the operation was conducted by the its Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division between 11pm on Jan 24 and 3am on Jan 25.
The operation, which covered areas such as Tanjong Lobang, Piasau, Marina, Tudan and Jalan Miri Bypass, saw a total of 18 men and 15 motorcycles inspected.
“As a result of the operation, 34 PDRM (K) 257 summonses were issued for various traffic offences, while 12 motorcycles were seized under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for further action,” the statement read.
Miri district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said such operations will continue from time to time.
“Road users, especially motorcyclists, are advised to always ride responsibly and carefully, not be involved in illegal street activities, not modify the original structure of their vehicles, and not to gather by the roadside in ways that cause congestion, obstruct traffic, or create excessive noise that may disturb public order,” he said.
Mohd Farhan also warned parents, vehicle owners and guardians that they may also be charged under Section 26(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333) if they allow a person to drive or ride without a valid driving licence.
Upon conviction, offenders may be fined up to RM2,000 or imprisoned for up to six months, or both.
