KUCHING (Feb 3): The Perak state government has expressed interest in the Sarawak government’s efforts to decarbonise public transport, particularly through the Kuching Urban Transportation System (KUTS).

During a recent visit, Sarawak Metro showcased the development and implementation of the KUTS project to the Perak delegation.

Among those in the delegation were Perak Executive Council (Exco) member for Tourism, Industry, Investment and Corridor Development Loh Sze Yee and Invest Perak representatives.

As part of the visit, the delegation also toured the Kuching Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) Assembly Facility (KAAF) at Demak Laut here.

A press statement from Sarawak Metro said the delegation was also briefed on the KUTS implementation project during a courtesy call on Minister of Transport Dato Sri Lee Kim Shin at the latter’s office.

“The delegation expressed its interest in learning more about the initiative to decarbonise public transport in Sarawak, especially through the KUTS project,” said the statement.

While at KAAF, the delegation had the opportunity to ride the ART prototype unit.

During the ride, the visitors were briefed on Sarawak Metro’s plans to have most of the zero-emission hydrogen-powered ART vehicles locally assembled here.

The facility is operated by the KUTS project’s System Package 1 contractor – a joint venture company comprising EPR Sdn Bhd, Mobilus Sdn Bhd, and Global Rail Sdn Bhd.
