KUCHING (Feb 5): Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has praised Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg for his leadership, particularly in driving transformation and progress in emerging technologies.

According to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report, Anwar highlighted Abang Johari’s role in driving transformation and progress in emerging technologies.

“I am especially encouraged not only by the presence of fellow ministers, but also by the support of leaders such as Sarawak Premier Abang Johari, who is among those at the forefront in spearheading transformation and advancement in new technologies,” he said when officiating the Malaysia Economic Forum (FEM) 2026 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC).

FEM 2026, the second edition of the forum, is now recognised as a national platform for advancing Malaysia’s socio-economic agenda.

With the theme Accelerating Growth, Advancing Malaysia, this year’s forum focuses on efforts to hasten national development in line with the aspirations of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP).

The forum brings together key stakeholders to deliberate on strategic issues including economic policy, investment, artificial intelligence (AI), sustainable energy, talent development, affordable housing, healthcare reform, and preparedness for an ageing population.

It is expected to play an important role in shaping national economic strategies to ensure inclusive and resilient growth.

Economy Minister Datuk Seri Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir said FEM 2026 provides a platform for the government and stakeholders to chart the direction of Malaysia’s economic development.

He added that the forum emphasises evidence-based policymaking, with outcomes expected to feed directly into 13MP.

Also present were Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Amar Fadillah Yusof, Cabinet ministers, industry leaders, and representatives from the corporate and academic sectors.
