Police arrest two in Miri bonsai theft case

MIRI (Jan 7): Police here arrested two men on Tuesday for their alleged involvement in the theft of a bonsai tree reported last week.

In a statement posted on its official Facebook page, Miri district police said both suspects, who are locals, were apprehended at a house in Desa Lambir, Mile 8, along the Miri–Bintulu Road at about 2.50pm.

“Both suspects were detained in connection with a theft case registered under Lutong/Rpt/0077/26.

“They are currently being remanded at the Miri Central police station lockup to assist in further investigations under Section 379 of the Penal Code,” the statement said.

Police advised the public not to be involved in criminal activities, adding that firm action would be taken without compromise against those who break the law.

Members of the public are also urged to immediately report any information or suspicious activities that could assist the police in their efforts to curb crime in the Miri district.
