During the meeting, Abdullah, who is the Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Corporate Affairs, Information, and Ukas), briefed Abang Johari on preparations for the conference which carries the theme ‘Media, Trust and Governance in a Rapidly Evolving Digital World’.

SMeC 2026 will feature a more interactive approach through various programmes, including workshops, panel discussion forums, and knowledge-sharing sessions involving students from higher learning institutions, media practitioners, and communication professionals.

Through this approach, SMeC 2026 aims to spur innovation, enhance professional competencies, and strengthen excellence within Sarawak’s media and communications ecosystem, while expanding its impact at the regional level.

The third edition of the conference will also feature three experienced panellists from diverse backgrounds in media, communications, academia, and industry to discuss issues related to media, public trust, and governance in an increasingly fast-evolving digital landscape.

During the same courtesy call, Abdullah also provided an update on preparations by the organising committee for the town hall programme in conjunction with the 2026 Sarawak Day celebrations, for which he is the deputy minister responsible.

Also present during the courtesy call were UKAS director Awang Putrayusrie Awang Redzuan, deputy director Mohamed Faizal Shah Ali, and senior officers. — DayakDaily
