Premier to unveil new cost-of-living aid package for Sarawakians next week

MIRI (April 11): Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is set to announce details of a new assistance package next week as part of efforts to help the people cope with the rising cost of living.

According to a Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) report, Abang Johari said the details would be unveiled after the State Cabinet meeting next week.

He also hinted that the package would involve a significant allocation.

“God willing, I will announce it. There will be more assistance to be given in the coming week. Given the current situation and the rising cost of living, I will announce the details after our Cabinet meeting, as it requires substantial funding.

“But Alhamdulillah, we are able to implement it with the funds we have today,” he was quoted as saying at a dinner with community leaders in Limbang on Friday.

Abang Johari had previously indicated that the Sarawak government would provide further assistance to the people, with an announcement to be made following the Cabinet meeting.
