KUCHING, April 16: The Federal government has approved RM2.43 million to strengthen Sarawak’s healthcare ecosystem, including upgrading infrastructure at the Clinical Research Centre (CRC) and procuring a new high-end ultrasound system at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).
Minister of Health Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the allocation reflects Putrajaya’s commitment to enhancing healthcare services and clinical research capabilities in Sarawak.
“Of the total allocation, RM930,000 has been earmarked to upgrade CRC facilities to cope with the increasing volume of clinical trials, in line with its standing as a leading oncology research centre,” he said in a post shared on his social media after an official working visit to SGH today.
The remaining RM1.5 million, he added, will go towards fulfilling a pledge made during his visit in September last year, following SGH’s landmark success in performing prenatal Spina Bifida surgery.
“The funding will be used to procure a new high-end ultrasound system for the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Unit, which will eliminate the need to borrow equipment and enable safer, real-time monitoring during complex procedures,” he explained.
Dr Dzulkefly emphasised that this reflects the Madani government’s commitment to translate the people’s aspirations into tangible action.
“The improvements in facilities and technology are strategic steps to safeguard the quality of healthcare for the people of Sarawak, while also strengthening Malaysia’s clinical research standing on the global stage,” he said.
He added that the Ministry of Health remains committed to ensuring that every allocation delivers meaningful impact to the healthcare ecosystem and benefits the people without discrimination.
