BAU, Feb 5: Construction of the new Bau District Education Office (PPD Bau), a RM22.65 million project, has officially commenced and is expected to be completed by February 2028.
The project began following the handover of the construction site by the Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak to the appointed contractor.
According to Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas) news, a symbolic site handover ceremony was held on Wednesday (Feb 4), officiated by Kuching Division JKR civil engineer Siti Fariza Aidel to the contractor’s representative, and witnessed by Sarawak Deputy Minister of Transport (River and Sea) and Tasik Biru assemblyman Datuk Henry Harry Jinep.
The development is located on Lot 1149, Block 9, Senggi-Poak Land District, covering an area of 6.76 acres or 27,350 square metres. The site is accessible via the Kuching–Bau Road, with secondary access from Jalan Seringgok.
The construction scope includes works on both low-lying and elevated terrain, encompassing preliminary works, piling, construction of the main buildings and supporting facilities.
Key components of the complex include a multipurpose hall, administrative building, seminar rooms, cafeteria, apartment quarters, waste disposal area, pump room and a guardhouse.
The project also features comprehensive mechanical and electrical works, including high- and low-voltage electrical systems, construction of a substation, installation of street lighting and lightning protection systems, as well as extra-low voltage (ELV) services such as ICT networks, CCTV, audiovisual systems for seminar rooms, air-conditioning and fire protection systems. Internal water supply and sanitary piping systems are also included.
Infrastructure works involve site preparation, earthworks, road and parking facilities, drainage systems, retention ponds, water reticulation, sewerage systems, pedestrian pathways, landscaping, rainwater harvesting tanks, fencing and security gates.
Additional works include the installation of signboards, construction of flagpoles, reinforced concrete benches, fixed cabinetry, covered parking areas and covered pedestrian walkways.
