KUCHING, Feb 6: A RM250,000 Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) drainage upgrading project at Jalan Kuching Ranger Depot, in front of the Sarawak Forestry Corporation’s Wisma Lestari, has been officially completed, marking a significant step in resolving long-standing drainage and flash flood issues that have affected the area for years.
Kota Sentosa assemblyman Wilfred Yap today visited the project site to witness the completion of the works, which were implemented to improve water flow and reduce flood risks that previously disrupted road users, nearby premises and surrounding communities, especially during periods of heavy rainfall.
During the site visit, Yap expressed his appreciation to the Public Works Department (JKR), the appointed contractor and all parties involved for ensuring the project was carried out in accordance with the approved scope and technical requirements.
“This drainage upgrading project is a practical and necessary intervention to enhance water flow, mitigate flood risks, and improve overall safety and convenience for the public.
“It reflects our commitment to addressing real issues faced by the people through targeted and effective infrastructure improvements,” he said in a statement.
Yap added that RTP infrastructure projects are prioritised based on feedback from the ground and local needs, particularly initiatives that have a direct impact on daily life and public safety.
He reaffirmed his commitment to continue working closely with implementing agencies to ensure all RTP projects in Kota Sentosa are delivered efficiently and provide long-term benefits to the community. — DayakDaily
