DALAT, June 19: A total allocation of RM30.8 million has been approved for the construction of the Dalat Boutique Hotel following a Sarawak Cabinet meeting on Thursday (June 18).
According to Dalat assemblywoman, Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, the approval was the result of various efforts previously undertaken to realise the project through public-private partnerships, which ultimately did not materialise.
“Several attempts were made through public and private enterprises, and we also waited for several corporate entities to come forward, but none of these efforts succeeded.
“Sarawak Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg also acknowledged that hotel development in Dalat faces challenges due to high construction costs and a lengthy return-on-investment period, as hotel occupancy rates are not consistent on a daily basis,” she said at the pre-launch ceremony of the Dalat Organic Fertiliser and Animal Feed Processing Centre here today, as reported by TVS.
However, Fatimah, who is also the Sarawak Minister for Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, said that the Sarawak government eventually agreed to provide the funding to ensure the project could proceed to stimulate development and boost the tourism sector in Dalat.
She said the project will be implemented by the Land Custody and Development Authority (LCDA), while hotel operations will be managed by a government-linked company (GLC). — DayakDaily
