KOTA KINABALU (Jan 8): Sabah police will deploy 926 officers and personnel to ensure smooth operations and security throughout the Kinabatangan Parliamentary and Lamag State Legislative Assembly (DUN) by-elections, said police commissioner Datuk Jauteh Dikun.
Of the total, 837 officers and personnel will be assigned directly in the field to provide security, traffic control, and monitoring throughout the election period, while the remainder will assist from the Sabah Police Contingent Headquarters.
“The assignment covers all main phases of the by-election, starting from nomination day on Jan 10, early voting on Jan 20, and polling day on Jan 24.
“On nomination day alone, 646 officers and personnel will be deployed to maintain security and ensure a smooth process,” Jauteh told a press conference at the Sabah police headquarters in Kepayan.
He added that additional assistance will come from nearby districts, including Sandakan, Lahad Datu, Semporna, and the 15th Battalion of the Sandakan General Operations Force.
Jauteh also urged political parties and individuals to campaign responsibly, respect local sensitivities, and avoid provocative issues.
“The police will take stern action against any acts that disrupt public order or affect the election process.
“The local community must also cooperate with the police and the Election Commission to ensure the Kinabatangan by-election is conducted peacefully and harmoniously,” he said.
