KUCHING, May 27: The Sarawak government will continue to work closely with local communities to improve infrastructure, create better opportunities for the younger generation, and ensure that no community is left behind as the State progresses towards becoming a developed and high-income region by 2030.
Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng emphasised that development is not solely about physical infrastructure, but also about strengthening community ties, unity and shared responsibility among residents.
“I encouraged residents to continue practising the spirit of gotong-royong and to preserve the strong bonds of friendship and understanding that have long been the foundation of harmony in Sarawak,” he said in a media release today.
Wee highlighted this when representing Deputy Premier and Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian to officiate the pre-Gawai celebration of Kampung Sungai Apong Baru held at Hong Ang Restaurant on Tuesday (May 26).
The event gathered community leaders, residents and invited guests in a festive atmosphere ahead of the upcoming Gawai Dayak celebration, highlighting unity, harmony and togetherness among the diverse local community.
“This pre-Gawai gathering reflects the true Sarawak spirit of inclusiveness, mutual respect and cooperation among people of different races and backgrounds, which continues to be a defining strength of the State’s social fabric,” he said.
Wee also expressed appreciation to the Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK) of Kampung Sungai Apong Baru, the organising committee and volunteers for their commitment and teamwork in ensuring the success of the event.
The celebration also featured cultural performances, a toast ceremony, lucky draws and fellowship among attendees in conjunction with the upcoming Gawai Dayak festival. — DayakDaily
