KUCHING (Feb 4): The zakat fitrah rate for Sarawak has been maintained at RM7.50 per person for this year.

Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department (Project Coordinator for Regional Development Agencies, DBKU and Islamic Affairs) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said the rate remains unchanged from last year.

Speaking at the Sarawak Islamic Council Contribution Ceremony to Mosques, Surau & Islamic Cemeteries 2026M/1447H at the Sarawak Islamic Complex, he urged Muslims in the state to fulfil the obligation through authorised channels.

“On this occasion, I am pleased to announce that the Sarawak Islamic Council has set the zakat fitrah rate for Sarawak for the year 1447 Hijrah at RM7.50 per person, the same as last year,” he said.

Dr Abdul Rahman emphasised that zakat fitrah should only be paid through legitimate channels recognised by the Sarawak Islamic Council to ensure proper distribution to eligible recipients.

“I call upon all Muslims in Sarawak to fulfil their zakat fitrah obligation through authorised channels, as zakat not only purifies the soul and wealth, but also safeguards the welfare of the asnaf group (those eligible for tithe) so that they can celebrate Aidilfitri more meaningfully,” he added.
