Sarawak sends 54 shuttlers to Junior Elite Tour in Johor

KUCHING (Feb 4): Sarawak will be represented by a big contingent of 54 players at the Affin 100Plus Junior Elite Tour  (1st Leg), which begins on Wednesday at the Indoor Arena, EduCity Sports Complex in Iskandar Puteri, Johor.

The Sarawak Badminton Association (SBA) confirmed that its young shuttlers will compete in all age-group categories from Feb 4 to 8, underscoring the state’s continued emphasis on structured junior development and national-level exposure.

The team comprises 10 boys and eight girls in the Under-12 category, 10 boys and nine girls in Under-14, and nine boys and eight girls in Under-16.

Altogether, Sarawak has submitted 60 entries, involving six singles entries and four doubles pairs across the various divisions.

SBA secretary Datuk Dr Wan Khalik Wan Muhammad, who is also the team manager, was quick to point out the importance of the tournament.

“The Affin 100Plus Junior Elite Tour is a critical platform for our young players to gain high-quality competitive exposure at the national level,” he said in a statement.

“These tournaments form the foundation of our future elite pathway, and we are confident that this exposure will contribute positively to Sarawak’s badminton ecosystem,” he said.

Organised by the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM), the Junior Elite Tour is a key component of the country’s junior high-performance framework, serving as an important benchmark for talent identification and national rankings.
