KUCHING, Apr 13: The Sarikei Tun Tuanku Haji Bujang Bridge Half Marathon is set to return for its second edition on Aug 23, with organisers targeting about 1,500 participants following strong response from its inaugural run last year.

According to Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas), the race will begin at the Tun Tuanku Haji Bujang Bridge, concluding at the Sarikei Civic Centre, with organisers retaining the same format comprising three categories: 21km half marathon, 10km run and 5km fun run or walk.

Deputy Minister for Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Sarawak Datuk Len Talif Salleh said the decision to continue the event was driven by the encouraging response garnered from its first edition.

“Last year’s event had initially targeted between 1,000 and 1,500 participants but ultimately attracted more than 2,000 runners from across Sarawak, including Kuching, Miri and Limbang.

“Due to the strong turnout, organisers have opted to retain the event and are now targeting around 1,500 participants for this year’s edition,” he said.

The race will be held from 4am to 10am with early morning timing set to support traffic management and safety along the route.

A total prize pool of RM60,000 will be offered, with organisers expecting participation from both professional and recreational runners.

The event is jointly organised by the Sarikei District Office and the Sarikei Divisional Resident’s Office with support from strategic partners.

Registration is open via Google Form and Ticket2U, as well as manual registration at The Sport Shop Sarikei and the Sarikei District Office. Registration runs from Apr 13 until July 31. — DayakDaily
