KUCHING, April 17: A wireless ultrasound technology capable of performing rapid scans of the heart, lungs and abdomen at the Clinical Research Centre (CRC) of Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) is among the early initiatives in Malaysia aimed at improving public access to advanced healthcare services.
Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the Vave Wireless Ultrasound system, which is connected directly to a smartphone and powered by artificial intelligence (AI), allows medical personnel to conduct quick diagnostic scans on-site without the need for patients to be physically present in hospital facilities.
“With this technology, early screening, including maternal health monitoring, can be brought directly into the community without patients needing to visit hospitals.
“The innovation demonstrates that high-quality health screening is now more mobile and affordable, thereby accelerating diagnosis and early treatment for patients,” he said in a post shared in his social media, following a visit to the SGH’s CRC today.
Dr Dzulkefly said the SGH CRC is the only integrated clinical research centre in Malaysia purpose-built for diverse clinical studies, including medical devices, drug delivery systems and AI-driven healthcare innovations.
He noted that the centre is also actively supporting the Ministry of Health’s First-In-Human (Phase 1) clinical trial mandate, which has been underway since 2023 and is now increasingly focused on the development of next-generation cancer treatments.
“This marks a major step in advancing more effective therapies for patients in the future,” he said.
The Health Minister added that the adoption of such technologies reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare innovation and expanding equitable access to modern medical services.
He said the Madani government remains committed to bringing cutting-edge medical technologies to the grassroots level to ensure a more modern, efficient and inclusive national healthcare ecosystem. — DayakDaily
