SIBU (Jan 20): Seasonal fruit traders in Sibu can now operate with greater ease following the launch of the Sanhill Agro Hub by the Taman Sanhill Sibu Jaya Hawkers and Consumers Association.

Association protem committee chairman Sai Malaka said the initiative was introduced after a recent incident in Miri, where durian traders’ goods were seized by local authorities.

“The hub provides designated trading spaces for seasonal fruit sellers at minimal rental rates to ease the financial burden of those relying on fruit sales as their main source of income.

“Traders no longer need to worry, as we provide trading sites on private land at low rental rates. Our intention is purely to assist them,” he told reporters on Monday.

The hub is strategically located along Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman near Sibu Airport, ensuring easy access for the public.

Sai stressed that the move is designed to prevent similar enforcement incidents from occurring in Sibu.

“We do not want what happened in Miri to happen here.

“By providing a designated site, traders can operate comfortably and comply with regulations,” he added.

Sai noted that the association was established to assist longhouse communities and rural residents generate income through the sale of local agricultural produce.

He expressed confidence that the licensed and organised trading area would reduce conflicts between traders and enforcement authorities while creating a more orderly business environment.

Those interested in operating at the Sanhill Agro Hub can call him on 011-5557 9559 for more information.
