KUCHING (Jan 19): The proposed first Singapore consulate office in Sarawak is still in the process of identifying a strategic location ahead of its planned pre-opening in the near future.

This was among the matters conveyed during a courtesy visit on Yang di-Pertua Negeri Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi by Singapore High Commissioner to Malaysia, Vanu Gopala Menon at the governor’s official residence on Monday.

According to the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas), the visit served to brief Wan Junaidi on Singapore’s plans to establish its first consulate office in East Malaysia, with Kuching identified as the preferred location.

The establishment of the Singapore consulate is expected to further enhance bilateral relations and provide consular services and engagement in East Malaysia.

During the courtesy call, Wan Junaidi and Vanu Gopala also exchanged views on expanding cooperation between Sarawak and Singapore, particularly in the tourism sector, which could generate mutual benefits for both sides.

Also present was the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Sarawak Regional Office director Dato Fenny Nuli.
