KUCHING, Oct 15: A 19-year-old who raped a 14-year-old girl he met through TikTok, leaving her pregnant, has been ordered to be detained at Henry Gurney School by the Sessions Court here today.

Judge Iris Awen Jon ordered that he be detained at the institution for three years or until he turns 21, whichever comes first, with effect from the date of conviction.

The case was called up today for the court to review his social report.

The youth had earlier pleaded guilty to one charge under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code, which provides for a prison sentence of up to 20 years and whipping.

He was accused of committing the offence at a house in Kampung Haji Baki here, sometime between September and October 2025.

The court heard that the pair first got to know each other through the app in early February 2025 before they began meeting in person.

He later took her to his house and pressured her to have sex. She initially refused, but he sulked and continued persuading her until she gave in. The act took place in the bedroom.

By January 2026, the girl noticed that her period had not come for several months. A home pregnancy test she took returned a positive result. She told her mother on April 1, 2026, who had also noticed changes in her daughter’s body.

On April 7, the mother took her to a nearby health clinic, where a doctor confirmed that she was 23 weeks pregnant. The doctor advised that a police report be lodged because she was underage.

Police arrested the youth at his home at about 3.15pm the following day.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Chuah Kai Sheng prosecuted the case, while the youth was unrepresented by legal counsel. — DayakDaily
