MIRI, Feb 6: Construction work at SK Tudan in Miri was temporarily halted today after a gas leak was detected at the school’s construction site.
Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Lutong dispatched a team of firefighters to the scene after receiving report of the incident at 10.15am.
Upon arrival, gas was observed escaping from two pile holes estimated to be 33.6 and 33.9 metrrs deep.
The type of gas has not yet been identified, following consultations with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Sarawak gas authority, the contractor, and the school’s headmaster.
For safety reasons, construction activities were immediately suspended, and barricades were installed around the affected areas.
Continuous monitoring of the site is being conducted while awaiting assistance from the Hazmat Unit of Bomba Bintulu. — DayakDaily
